Since 2022, James Stephens has led the largest general aviation airport in South Carolina. GMU ranks as the third-busiest airport in the state overall, including commercial airports, and is home to more based aircraft than any other airport in South Carolina. Stephens began his professional aviation career in Greenville and held roles across multiple sectors of the industry. His experiences include work as an aircraft mechanic, serving as an airport manager in Tennessee, aircraft sales and marketing for a private aviation management company in Greenville, and as the executive director of the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. He serves as chairman of the South Carolina Aviation Association, a board member of VisitGreenvilleSC, and an advisory contributor to Greenville County Schools’ CTE Innovation Center for workforce development.
