Dr. Phyllis MacGilvray, M.D., FAAFP serves as the dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (USCSOMG) since July 2024. Additionally, she is a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine and serves as a Prisma Health Family Medicine physician. MacGilvray is the first medical school dean in the country board certified in lifestyle medicine, which focuses on the use of evidence-based lifestyle interventions to prevent, treat and reverse chronic diseases. In her previous role, MacGilvray served as the senior associate dean for academic affairs at USCSOMG, overseeing all aspects of undergraduate medical education, admissions, faculty affairs, student affairs, and the school’s new Primary Care Accelerated Track (PCAT) program. A native South Carolinian, she maintained a full-scope family medicine practice with obstetrics for over 20 years.
