Mike Baur co-founded ScanSource Inc. in 1992 in Greenville, and he now serves as chair and chief executive officer of the Greenville-headquartered company. Baur says he was led by an entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to filling a need in the technology space to founding the company, which has grown into a $3 billion, Fortune 1000, publicly traded company with 2,100 employees in North America and Brazil. An Anderson native and Clemson University grad, Baur served as ScanSource president from its inception in 1992 until 2000, when he was named chief executive officer. He joined the board of directors in 1995 and has been board chair since February 2019. Giving back has long been important to Baur, who established the employee-led ScanSource Charitable Foundation early in the company’s history. He’s also passionate about the community and wants to protect and cultivate the region, and to that end has served on the Upstate Forever board of directors since 2014. Baur has served on Clemson University’s President’s Advisory Board since 2021 and now serves on the Advisory Board of Bish’s RV, an RV/camping dealership company. He previously served on the Peace Center board of trustees. His proudest accomplishment, Baur said, is ScanSource’s summer internship program, which is “highly sought after and extremely well-orchestrated by our People and Culture team. Designed to attract talented rising seniors from local universities, the program identifies candidates who can make a meaningful impact after graduation. We aspire to fill our talent pool the following year with as many individuals from our summer cohort as possible.”
