Liz Seman has enjoyed a varied career since moving to Greenville in 1999. At present, she is chief of staff and vice president for community relations at Furman University, as well as chair pro tem of Greenville County Council. But she has also worked for the American Red Cross, Hands On Greenville, and Meals on Wheels in recent years. A native of Chicago, Seman was first elected to Greenville County Council in 2008, representing District 24, and since then she has led efforts to livestream all council meetings and add electronic voting for roll-call votes. She serves on the Roads, Infrastructure, and Public Works Committee, as well as the Communications and Governmental Affairs Committee. Seman serves on the executive committees of the Upstate South Carolina Alliance and VisitGreenvilleSC, and on the boards of Greenville Women Giving, the Hispanic Alliance, Artisphere, and Greenville Symphony Orchestra. In 2023, Seman received the Ruth Nicholson Award from the Community Foundation of Greenville, given for significant volunteer contributions to the Upstate, whether it’s through the Community Foundation or through other volunteer work. She says that the strength of South Carolina, and Greenville County in particular, is “our people! I would also say our strength is our ability to execute strong public-private partnerships.”
