I’m Tim Boatwright-Johnson, client experience officer at Southern First Bank. I have built my career by embracing new challenges, learning various aspects of the banking industry, and developing meaningful relationships with clients, colleagues, and the communities I serve. Those experiences have strengthened my passion for leadership, business development, and community engagement. Giving back to the community to me means investing in people before expecting a return. I aspire to help individuals and businesses gain access to the knowledge, resources, and opportunities needed to build generational success while strengthening the communities they call home. Whether mentoring young leaders, volunteering, supporting local nonprofits, or creating programs that expand opportunity, I believe every act of service has the potential to change someone's trajectory. My goal is to leave every person and community stronger than I found it and inspire others to do the same.
Favorite Quote and Why: My favorite quote is, "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve," by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Throughout my life, I've learned that true leadership isn't about titles or recognition; it's about using your gifts to make a positive impact on others. Growing up, I watched my grandparents consistently pour into people without expecting anything in return. Their selflessness set the standard for how I wanted to live my own life. When I first heard this quote, it immediately reminded me of them. This quote reminds me that greatness is accessible to everyone because service is a choice
Definition of a Successful Leader: To me, a successful leader is someone who inspires others to achieve more than they believed possible while creating an environment where people feel valued, heard, and empowered to contribute. Effective leaders are innovative enough to embrace change, humble enough to listen, accountable for both their successes and mistakes, and committed to continuous learning. They communicate with clarity, encourage collaboration, and recognize that the best ideas often come from those around them. Above all, they lead with strong values and integrity, making decisions that build trust, demonstrate character, and positively influence those they serve.
Advice to 18-Year-Old Self: If I could give my 18-year-old self one piece of advice, it would be, “You are enough.” There will be challenges that test you, but they will not define you. They will strengthen you and shape the person you are becoming. Trust that you have a bright future ahead, surrounded by people who genuinely want to support you, your growth and opportunities that will broaden your perspective. Don't be afraid to ask questions, take risks, or step outside your comfort zone. Most importantly, don't let self-doubt get in the way of pursuing your purpose. The only person capable of standing in your way is you, so believe in yourself as much as those around you will.
