The Greenville chapter of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will host the Greenville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Fluor Field on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and honoring the 343 FDNY firefighters and other first responders who lost their lives that day.
Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories representing the height of the World Trade Center towers, while carrying the badge of an individual fallen firefighter throughout the ascent. The event offers anyone in the community an opportunity to walk alongside firefighters and first responders in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to support the families of fallen firefighters.
The Greenville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb has been held at Fluor Field since 2020, with the stadium's seating providing a unique setting to replicate the ascent of the World Trade Center towers.
Today, the Greenville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb ranks No. 7 in the nation among NFFF climbs. In 2025, approximately 800 climbers participated and approximately $65,000 was raised.
Firefighters participating in the climb often complete the ascent wearing full turnout gear weighing as much as 75 pounds, while other participants climb in uniform or casual clothing. The event is a physical challenge, but its purpose is remembrance and tribute.
The Greenville climb has set a fundraising goal of $75,000. Proceeds benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, supporting families of fallen firefighters as well as the FDNY Counseling Services Unit.
Gates open at 6:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 8:45.
Advanced registration is required for climbers but not for observers. For registration and donation info, visit nfff.akaraisin.com/ui/greenville26.
