Community Foundation of Greenville announces that President Bob Morris will retire effective Dec. 31, 2027, following more than 28 years of leadership. Morris has served as president since December 1999, guiding the foundation through nearly three decades of growth and service to the Greenville community.
“Bob’s leadership has helped shape Community Foundation of Greenville into a trusted and essential partner for donors, nonprofits, and the broader Greenville community,” said Joanie Martin, chair of the Community Foundation of Greenville board of directors. “We are deeply grateful for his extraordinary service, his collaborative approach, and the lasting foundation he has helped build. As we begin the search for the next president, the board is confident in the strength of our staff, the continuity of our work, and the opportunity to build on this momentum in the years ahead.”
When Morris moved to Greenville in 1999, he arrived with three young children, ages 7 and under. The community quickly embraced his family, and it proved to be an exceptional place to raise children.
“With the expertise and dedication of my colleagues at the Community Foundation, and the leadership of our board of directors, I have had the privilege of helping grow the foundation in a manner that reflects the generosity and values of this special place I call home,” Morris said.
His career highlights include helping support public-private partnerships for Falls Park and Unity Park, facilitating the founding of Greenville Women Giving, and coordinating investments in the Greenville Housing Impact Fund. Under the leadership of Morris, the Community Foundation has grown its assets from approximately $30 million to $160 million and distributed nearly $300 million in grants.
Throughout his career, Morris has been widely recognized for collaborative and community-centered leadership. His honors include induction into the 50 Most Influential Hall of Fame in 2025, and the Ben Haskew Collaborative Leadership Award in 2026.
Morris is a member of the Greenville Estate Planning Study Group, the South Carolina Planned Giving Council, the Greenville Estate Planning Council, and the Rotary Club of Greenville. He also served as a founding board member of the Greenville Partnership for Philanthropy and Greater Good Greenville.
The board of directors will begin a comprehensive search for the foundation’s next president in January, with the goal of making an appointment by June 30. The search committee will include civic leaders and other community stakeholders committed to identifying an exceptional professional to lead the foundation into its next chapter. The search committee will seek input and insight from the board, fundholders, and foundation staff.
Morris will work closely with the board, staff, and incoming president to ensure a thoughtful, well-planned transition and continuity of the foundation’s work.
