Leadership is the ability to guide, support, and empower others to achieve both individual and organizational goals. It involves setting clear expectations, leading by example, communicating effectively, and creating an environment where people feel valued and accountable. As an office manager and HR director, leadership also means fostering a positive culture, supporting employee development, and ensuring consistency, fairness, and integrity in all decisions.
My effectiveness as a leader comes from being consistent, approachable, and solutions-oriented. I focus on clear communication, setting expectations, and following through, which helps build trust and accountability across the team. I also prioritize understanding people — supporting their development while maintaining fairness and structure within the organization.
One area I continue to work on is delegating more effectively. Given the pace and demands of operations and HR, it can be easy to take on too much directly. I am intentionally focusing on empowering others, distributing responsibilities more strategically, and continuing to develop the team’s capacity so we can operate more efficiently as a whole.
A mentor who has meant a great deal to me in my career is my husband, Derek. He has consistently pushed me to grow, supported me through challenges, and inspired me to take on new opportunities. His perspective, encouragement, and belief in my abilities have played a significant role in shaping my confidence and approach to leadership.
My greatest fear is making a decision that negatively impacts our people or the organization. Because of that, I approach decisions thoughtfully and rely on clear information, policy, and consistency rather than reacting emotionally.
I manage fear by staying grounded in preparation and communication — gathering the facts, seeking input when needed, and addressing issues directly. By focusing on what I can control and maintaining a structured, fair approach, I’m able to move forward with confidence even in uncertain situations.
The best advice I’ve received is to be consistent and fair in how you treat people — apply standards evenly, communicate clearly, and follow through on your commitments. When employees know what to expect and trust that decisions are made with integrity, it creates stability, accountability, and a stronger, more productive workplace.
My greatest professional accomplishment has been building and maintaining a stable, well-structured office and HR function that supports the company’s growth. Establishing consistent processes for hiring, onboarding, compliance, and employee relations has created a reliable foundation for operations while helping foster a positive, accountable workplace culture.
One thing I’ve learned that has consistently served me well is that nothing beats hard work. Consistent effort, attention to detail, and a willingness to step in wherever needed build trust, drive results, and set the standard for those around you, especially when combined with clear communication and accountability.
If I could go back, I wouldn’t change anything, because the value has come from learning through both successes and mistakes. Those experiences have shaped my judgment, strengthened my decision-making, and helped me grow into a more effective and resilient leader.
