Dr. Kiersten Lofton is originally from Charleston, South Carolina. She completed her pediatric residency at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital and practiced at Five Points Pediatrics until joining Palmetto Pediatrics in March of 2014. She is board-certified by the ABP and a fellow of the AAP. She serves on the board of Carolina Sunshine Wishing Well for Children, a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to South Carolina children with life-threatening illnesses or injuries. She and her husband Trey have four children, Charlotte, Parker, and twins Sadie and Alex.
I define leadership as belonging to a group while guiding the group toward common goals by empowering each member.
I try to maintain a “big picture” perspective on any issue to ensure all opinions and input are presented without bias. I often have to remind myself not to get caught up in details to keep the group momentum on track.
I have learned something from everyone I have ever worked with, but in particular one of my partners, Dr. Debbie Greenhouse, stands out for her absolute commitment to improving the health of children in South Carolina and beyond.
I fear the passage of time and getting so caught up in work that my family time suffers. I try to be conscientious of preserving family time and cherishing moments together.
It is critical to be actively involved in your business. Don’t assume everyone else has complete understanding and never be afraid to ask questions or request explanations when necessary.
No single accomplishment stands out in my mind, but I am proud to say that I am a wife, mother, pediatrician, and business owner every day. I could not do all of those things without a wonderful, supportive family and fantastic partners.
Over the years I have learned to always be diligent, to listen to my gut instinct and to pay attention to my own inner voice when it nags at me about something. This applies to clinical practice and business management alike.
I wouldn’t change a thing!
