Philip Dukes & Friends III: French Tragedy

Savannah Music Festival 2025

What series would be complete without dramatic and tragic elements? In this concert, Philip Dukes and Friends feature three incredible French masters who, for different reasons, suffered through various addictions or afflictions: Gabriel Fauré’s chain-smoking contributed to his death, alcoholism killed Erik Satie, and Ernest Chausson’s mental health issues resulted in an apparent suicide when the brakes on his penny farthing “failed” on a steep hill and he hit a brick wall. Be sure to bring a handkerchief! Amédée-Ernest Chausson Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet, Opus 21 – INTERMISSION – Erik Satie Trois Gymnopédies Gabriel Fauré Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor, Opus 45
