Two community-forward organizations in the Upstate, the Greenville Drive and Table 301, are joining forces to create a new and exciting sports bar concept. The restaurant, to be called “Lefty’s West End Tavern”, will be located in the old Liberty Taproom/Bellwether location at 941 South Main Street, next to Fluor Field.
“Right over the left field fence,” said Craig Brown, owner of the Greenville Drive. “That helped influence the name along with the overall sports-orientation of the term, “Lefty.” It felt like a sports bar name, had a casual feel to it, nothing pretentious, and most of all, it felt welcoming.”
The setting, right next to where the Greenville Drive play, seemed like a natural fit for a sports bar and restaurant. Beyond the Drive, popular college games are played at Fluor Field and the stadium has become a tourist attraction for the ever-increasing number of visitors discovering Greenville.
For Carl Sobocinski, owner of Table 301, what’s going to make Lefty's feel different from other sports bars in town is the attention paid to the guests and the food.
“Sports bars tend to focus on the TVs and the beer. We’ll pay attention to those things for sure, but we’re also focusing big time on the quality of the food we serve and the way we treat our guests. Many of the menu items will be familiar for a sports bar, but executed at a higher level. We’ll also have a few surprises on the menu. And we’re never going to leave you wondering where your server went.”
The partnership between the Drive and Table 301 grew from the relationship Brown and Sobocinski developed over the years as two committed philanthropists in the area. Both men and their organizations have contributed generously to the community over the years and both are celebrating 20th anniversaries this year. For Brown, it’s the 20th anniversary of the Greenville Drive. And for Sobicinski, it’s the 20th year of euphoria, the hugely successful food and wine festival he conceived of and launched.
For two community-oriented men, it just seemed natural to open a community-first place where, as Craig Brown says, “Folks of all ages can come together, enjoy a great meal, some refreshing drinks, watch a game or two, be treated well and feel a part of Team Greenville just by being here.”
