Styx Companies announced that it has opened a new CubeSmart self storage facility in Greenwood, S.C. The company has made a $2.75 million investment in redeveloping an existing building adjacent to the Greenwood’s Medical Innovation District.

Located at 1508 Edgefield Street, the facility is 47,000 square feet with 300 storage units ranging from 25 to 300 square feet.  The facility is 100 percent climate controlled using state-of-the-art Panasonic VRF system and has a 14’ moving truck available for customers to use free of charge for all move-ins.

The project made use of the South Carolina Abandoned Buildings Tax Credits for Redevelopment. The SC Abandoned Buildings Act encourages private investment to alleviate adverse real estate conditions such as abandoned, textile, and historic buildings. The Act also makes it easier for developers and communities to enhance nearby property values, create local jobs, and form the “sense of place” that has become such an important factor in deciding where we live, work, and play.

“We were excited for the opportunity to redevelop this project in Greenwood,” said Ryan Hyler, partner. “Being able to repurpose an abandoned building to a higher and better use that contributes to the tax base and community is a great venture. With proximity to the hospital and uptown, we believe this is a great location to serve the growing community.”
