Top Work Places #1 Large Company - Interim HealthCare

   For the second year in a row, Interim HealthCare of Greenville, a locally owned hospice and home healthcare agency, was named the No. 1 Top Large Workplace in the state. Last year’s award didn’t change the way the company lives out its mission statement of being dedicated to honoring God through the enrichment of human life. However, the honor helped validate the company’s efforts.

“This award came on the heels of a very busy year,” says Charyl Schroeder, CEO. “It was validation that we were not losing sight of what is most important: our employees. We rely on our employees to provide great care to our patients. If we take great care of our employees, our employees are more likely to go the extra mile for our patients.”

Crystal Adams, director of HR, agrees.

“To us, it meant more than just being recognized by some outside organization, simply because the answers to the questions came from our staff,” says Adams. “Knowing that the things they said about us as a company was their input and their opinions, that validated that we’re doing a good job.”

To maintain that good job, Interim began taking surveys internally. In their Top Workplaces answers last year, some employees mentioned they didn’t feel as though they had enough communication, particularly with top management. It was a situation the company worked quickly to fix.

“The award taught us that employees want to be connected,” says Schroeder. “Internal surveys are becoming part of our culture. We don’t have a lot of bricks and mortar, so we are creating unique, 2018 ways for our employees to connect.”

There are quite a few more employees to connect; the company has nearly doubled its roster from 300 to 600 over the past year. While Adams can’t say if the growth was directly attributable to winning last year’s Top Workplaces award, she did say that their recruiters do tell potential employees about the award and use it as a marketing tool.

Schroeder agrees that while the impact isn’t measurable quantitatively, having that award to their name can only be a boon.

“Because there are so many post-acute health care providers, credibility can be difficult to define,” she says. “This award gives our organization credibility as a company that truly loves our employees and values the good work they do.”

Interim has also received accolades from outside the firm. The company recently announced that it had maintained a 5-star rating on for 10 consecutive quarters, something unheard of in the industry.

In short, keeping patients and employees happy is important to Interim, and it shows.

“We have a couple of people who live in North Carolina, but because of the reputation of the company and the environment we provide, they choose to drive into South Carolina every day to go to work,” says Adams.

Surprising, yes—but then again, not really. Not from a company that makes its employees a priority.

Says Adams, “It’s our goal to treat our patients and our employees with respect and integrity and to do the right thing in all circumstances.”
