Furman University’s David E. Shi Center for Sustainability will host an Alumni Climate Change panel discussion Wednesday, March 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Burgiss Theater of the Trone Student Center.

The discussion is free and open to the public and is part of Furman’s year-long exploration of climate change.

The panelists include alumni pursuing careers in climate change policy. They are:

Rory McIlmoil, Class of 2002. McIlmoil is the energy savings program manager at Appalachian Voices, an organization that works to end mountaintop removal mining, clean up coal ash, and promote renewable energy. McIlmoil has a Master of Arts degree in Global Environmental Policy from American University and works to foster energy efficiency and promote renewable energy in Appalachia.

Kartikeya Singh, Class of 2007. Singh is the deputy director of the Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C. Singh has a Master of Science degree from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. His research focuses on climate change, energy policy, and geopolitical energy use issues. 

Emily Wirzba, Class of 2013. Wirzba is the legislative representative for sustainable energy and environment for the Friends Committee on National Legislation in Washington, D.C. She leads the group’s lobbying efforts on energy, environment, and climate issues, and works with members of Congress to achieve bipartisan legislative action on climate change.
