Hollingsworth Funds, Inc., a community-wide funder for Greenville County, has announced a distribution of $7,659,087 in 2017 grants to Furman University, the YMCA of Greenville, and 51 other nonprofit organizations within the area. This total represents the largest annual gift in the organization’s history.

“Hollingsworth Funds is committed to using all forms of its philanthropic capital to ensure that everyone has a meaningful opportunity to achieve their highest potential,” said Minor Shaw, chair of the Hollingsworth Funds Board. “We congratulate this year’s organizations and initiatives for their inspiring contributions towards positive community change in Greenville.”

John D. Hollingsworth, Jr. established Hollingsworth Funds to positively benefit the people of Greenville County in perpetuity. Under provisions of the trust documents, 45 percent of the annual distributions are designated for Furman University, 10 percent to the YMCA of Greenville, and 45 percent to 501(c)(3) public charities operating for the benefit of Greenville County. Since that time, Hollingsworth Funds has faithfully performed its responsibility, distributing more than $70.6 million to named beneficiaries and other Greenville nonprofit organizations.
