Spartanburg Methodist College named Wade “Hamp” Lindsey, Jr., president of the popular Wade’s Restaurant, to its board of trustees. The United Methodist Church Annual Conference confirmed his appointment today.
“We look forward to welcoming such a respected local businessman to our Board,” said incoming Chair Catherine Gramling. “Mr. Lindsey’s experience and reputation in the community will help us strengthen relationships throughout Spartanburg. He is a tremendous voice to add to our board, and we look forward to the perspective he’ll bring.”
Lindsey is the president and CEO of Wade’s Restaurant, Inc., a family-owned business in Spartanburg, S.C., where he has been actively involved since 1977. Under his leadership, Wade’s has grown from a small drive-in into a James Beard Award-winning restaurant and an enduring part of the Upstate community.
Lindsey earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Clemson University. He is a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg, past president of the Piedmont Area and South Carolina Restaurant Associations, a founding member and past board member of the Spartanburg Food Rescue, and serves on the OneSpartanburg Tourism Advisory Board.
Lindsey has been named the Piedmont Area and South Carolina Restaurateur of the Year and previously served as the chair of the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau and as a board member of the Spartanburg Pine Street YMCA.
The Annual Conference also confirmed another term for SMC Trustees Grant Close and Ashley Williams.
Beginning the new term in July, the SMC board of trustees officers are:
