Posted

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, the South Carolina General Assembly will convene for the 126th legislative session, marking the final year of the two-year session. Bills that did not pass last May will have another opportunity to advance before adjournment on May 14, 2026.

With major legislation on tort reform and energy policy passed last year, this year’s agenda will bring  significant focus on:

·        Income tax Reform: The Senate is expected to take up the bill passed by the House last year. Both chambers have expressed a commitment to passing tax reform by May.

·        Election-year dynamics: With the House up for election this fall, anticipate increased campaigning and political positioning on the floor.

·        Accelerating road projects: Continued collaboration with SCDOT to plan and expedite critical infrastructure improvements.

·        Judicial reform: Ongoing efforts to prioritize changes within the judicial system.

·        Insurance reform: Implementing measures to increase affordability and availability while providing stronger protections for policyholders.

The Metro Chamber Coalition will hold its annual Legislative Reception on Feb. 3, 2026, in Columbia, and the agenda will focus on affordability and accessibility of dependent care, modernization of the South Carolina Department of Transportation, insurance, energy, and economic competitiveness.

By uniting key regional chambers, the Metro Chamber Coalition aims to amplify the voices of its member organizations to effectively champion business interests and economic development. By working together, the coalition seeks to address legislative challenges, promote business-friendly policies, and foster economic opportunities across South Carolina.
