Continental Tires Americas has announced that its headquarters in Fort Mill, S.C., has achieved LEED Gold Certification, one of the highest honors for sustainable and environmentally responsible building design and operation. This recognition is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and underscores the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation, and employee well-being.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the world’s most widely recognized green building rating system, evaluating how buildings are designed, constructed, and operated to reduce environmental impact and support occupant health. Continental Tire’s Americas headquarters earned LEED Gold by incorporating numerous sustainable strategies during design and construction, including 840 solar panels, 10 electric vehicle charging stations, heat recovery capabilities, and advanced interior lighting controls for daylight harvesting. The building’s biophilic design maximizes natural light through expansive windows, helping optimize resource consumption while enhancing employee comfort and productivity.
To earn LEED certification, projects must accumulate points across key categories such as energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials, indoor environmental quality, and site selection. Projects are awarded one of four certification levels — Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum — based on total points achieved. LEED Gold certification represents a high level of achievement, reflecting meaningful reductions in environmental footprint while creating efficient, high-performing workspaces.
“Earning LEED Gold for our headquarters is a testament to our team’s dedication to sustainability and innovation,” said Tansu Isik, CEO of Continental Tires Americas. “This achievement not only reduces our environmental impact but also enhances the health and comfort of our employees and partners. We are proud to positively contribute to our community and the industry."
The long-term benefits of creating a building that achieves LEED Gold helps Continental meet an end-goal of a green, sustainable HQ for employees and the environment, promoting a sense of pride and engagement among employees that contribute to a positive workplace culture.
The three-story, 90,000 square-foot building originally opened in early 2024. It was designed by architectural/engineering firm Gresham Smith, with construction executed by Edifice Construction.
