The S.C. Department of Commerce's annual Industrial Recruitment Report is out, with the number of new capital investment for the Palmetto State dropping by $1 billion from 2017 to 2018.

While the report notes the drop, the 2018 figure of $4.2 billion is substantially higher than 2016's $3.4 -- and North Carolina's 2018 figure of $3.54 billion. However, the Tarheel State bested its Palmetto State neighbor in the total jobs created department, bringing in 19,729 jobs to SC's  14,071.

In the Palmetto State, Germany and China remained dominate international players in the recruitment game, accounting for 5% and 4% of the new investment, respectively. Both nations, however, pale in comparison to the 77% of new investment from American firms.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of investment was from new recruits (61%) over expansions (39%).
