Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District invites the community to learn about updates to the master plan for Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP).

A public workshop will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the GSP Conference Center that’s located in the airport’s terminal building. It is intended to be an interactive opportunity for citizens to learn about potential development at the airport while offering feedback.

“We look forward to meeting with the public to share plans regarding GSP’s future,” said Dave Edwards, GSP’s president and CEO. “These workshops also provide a valuable opportunity for us to hear from the public, including our neighbors and passengers.”

A similar meeting was held during the summer. Comments received from airport tenants, community stakeholders, and the general public were incorporated in the master planning process. The upcoming meeting will give the public an opportunity to review the final GSP Master Plan as adopted by the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Commission before it is submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The update for GSP’s master plan has been an 18-month process. Representatives from McFarland Johnson, an airport master plan consultant, and GSP will discuss the effort and the findings of the report.

“The master plan is an important document that plays a vital role in anticipating GSP’s future needs and it is a joint effort between the airport district, tenants, and the community,” said Kevin Howell, a GSP senior vice president and chief operating officer. “We really appreciate the feedback that we have received and would to like give the public another opportunity to provide input and to learn about potential development at GSP.”

The master plan includes an overview of existing facilities at GSP, forecasted aviation activity, facility requirements, environmental considerations, development alternatives, development phasing, estimated costs, and financial feasibility analyses. The document allows the airport to meet future aviation demand while complying with the FAA’s airport design and safety standards. Once the master plan is approved, it will become the airport’s official planning document with the FAA. The plan is a tool to guide the next 20 years of development at GSP to accommodate expected growth and passenger demands of the Upstate.
