Women Who Lead: Barbara League
Barbara League
Chairman and CEO, G.F. League Company, Inc.
Barbara League works tirelessly to increase opportunities for women in economic and leadership roles in Greenville. She is dedicated to community volunteerism and is active in all legislation regarding manufacturing and business. A graduate of Leadership Greenville, she has also served 20+ years on the National Federation of Independent Business South Carolina Leadership Council and 20+ years on the S.C. Commission on Consumer Affairs, including eight years as Chairman.
Additionally, Barbara serves on the Upstate 4th Congressional District Business Cabinet, Wachovia National Bank Board, Greenville Chamber Board of Governors, Greater Greenville Business Leadership PAC, Greenville County Museum of Art Board, Greenville County United Way Women's Leadership Council, and many others. She has also served on numerous public, private and non-profit boards focused on arts and education, as well as being a member of Think Tank on Women Entrepreneurs, National Association of Professional Women and Athena International.
"Volunteering for so many diverse boards and organizations broadened my understanding of other fields and challenged my comfort zone of working in the manufacturing industry while also providing me with many lifelong friendships."
Professionally, Barbara considers her greatest achievement as guiding the company through recessions and among other hard economic times while managing to keep the company up and running while so many others did not survive.
Looking forward, Barbara hopes to maintain a steady course for her business, positioning it to celebrate its 100th year in 2017. She also sees promise in Greenville's future: "Greenville has always had visionary leadership, and this will sustain us in generations to come."
