Women Who Lead: Annette Allen
Annette Allen
Vice President and General Manager, Fluor Greenville Office
Annette Allen credits her parents as one of the greatest points of inspiration in her life. "They taught me the value of hard work and that there were no boundaries in achieving whatever I set my mind to." Indeed for Annette, her unfaltering ambition and entrepreneurial spirit started young, when at age 12 she started her own lawn mowing business and babysitting service. As a teenager, she worked in the service industry where she learned what she counts as her secret to success: treat everyone with respect and work hard, and credibility will come.
Annette received a BS in Architecture from Clemson and immediately went to work with Fluor. In her initial nine-year Greenville-based stint with the company, she learned to handle the rudiments of project management and then transferred to San Francisco where she was able to flex her entrepreneurial muscles, establishing a regional office from the ground up, handling all business aspects from client relations to marketing to project execution. Twelve years later, she returned and is now VP and General Manager of the Greenville office.
in the short-term, Annette wants to put full focus on the job currently at-hand at Fluor as well as maintain a consistent focus on employees. Personally, she establishes a checklist of yearly goals around continuous improvement both on and off the job.
Annette hopes future generations of leaders in Greenville will continue to be champions of education, facilitate economic development initiatives and be active in the community. Annette currently serves on the Governors School for the Arts Foundation Board and is the 2011 Chair for the Greenville County United Way campaign.
