Droid Bionic with Lapdock

By itself, or at least of this writing, the Droid Bionic is perhaps the latest and greatest of the Android phones. It’s got a fast dual core processor, 4G LTE network speeds, a big 1700 mAh battery and a very nice looking 960x540 qHD display that’s the new standard, 4.3 inches across. That makes the phone a bit big for carrying purposes, but it is pretty impressive when you lay it alongside phones with smaller screens. There is also an 8MP camera that shoots high def video that’s good enough under good shooting conditions. The considerable shutter lag will keep you from getting many action shots, but it works well enough for you to shoot a couple of friends in a sunny vacation shot. The Bionic is running Gingerbread, the latest version of Android, including all of the attendant bells and whistles. The phone’s got plenty of memory with 16 GB built in and another 16 GB included in the SD card slot. But that’s not all. It arrives with a basket load of accessories that you’ll want to check out as well. There is a car dock, a couple of different desktop docks, including one that offers an HDMI and two USB ports, allowing you hook the phone up to a big screen, mouse and keyboard. With that attached, you can surf the web using a Firefox browser in 1080p. The HDMI mirror mode built into the phone already lets you play games and movies on the big screen, albeit with an HDMI cable hanging off the phone. The accessory I liked the most was the LAPDOCK.  It sort of turns the phone into a netbook computer. When closed, the LAPDOCK is a very nice docking station with a large battery of its own that actually charges the Bionic using the charge in its reserve, even if the LAPDOCK is itself not plugged in. While the LAPDOCK is not as fast as a full-blown computer, it certainly gets the job of surfing the web done. The Droid Bionic plus LAPDOCK is a powerful combination and a very compelling new way to stay connected.
