South Carolina Children’s Theatre, founded in 1987, educates and stimulates young minds and imaginations through participation in live theater, year-round education and accessible outreach. SCCT brings wonder and excitement to the stage through five quality family-oriented productions annually – very often based on classic children’s literature – at the Peace Center Gunter Theatre in downtown Greenville where SCCT is a resident company. In addition to the main stage season, SCCT has 2nd Stage located at its headquarters which includes productions that provide even more hands-on theatre experiences for young people and their families in an intimate performance space with family friendly prices. 2nd Stage is also a showcase spot for conservatory performances and provides space for collaborative projects such as Timbre Tales with the Greenville Symphony. Offering classes for ages three to adult, SCCT served over 1,100 students last year in over 100 classes, offering a variety of opportunities that encourage creative thinking, development and social skills and bolster self-esteem. SCCT is launching a new program for Greenville County Schools this year and is now able to bring the magic of the stage to schools with SCCT TO Go!, a touring program, including popular and educationally-relevant shows such as Miss Nelson is Missing!

SCCT’s Theatre Outreach Partnerships (TOPs) were founded on the belief in the transformational benefits of the arts for all youth. TOPs provides tailor-made educational programs for at-risk, disabled, physically, mentally and emotionally challenged, or hospitalized children. TOPs fulfill this mission through scholarships to attend conservatory classes; artistic residencies in Title 1 schools; camps at children’s hospitals; community outreach projects such as Bully Prevention and Gang Awareness Programs for Greenville County Schools; and complimentary tickets to SCCT productions at the Peace Center. All services in this program are provided totally free of charge to recipients. For more information, please check SCCT’s website at www.scchildrenstheatre.org or call 864-235-2885.
