Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Every generation of Android tablet is better than the last and they are certainly getting better fast. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE from Verizon Wireless has to be the Cadillac of the lot. In addition to a big, bright HD display in a very thin case, the very latest version of the Android’s Honeycomb operating system, the system is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor. What does all that mean? It’s fast. And while we don’t imagine a lot of people will be using their tablet as their primary camera, like all of the latest devices, it has two, one facing each direction. Battery life is reported at ten hours, although in practice it felt like less. In fact, during the review period, I think I only saw the front screen report fully charged once. Like most Android powered devices, all of the power comes at the expense of battery life. You will want to carry a charger with you. While there are still not as many tablet specific apps as we’d like, developers seem to be very interested in remedying the shortfall with thousands of new apps every day. What I’d really like to see is Google update the calendar app so it would look as nice on Android as it does on the iPad. They’ve done a good job of making contacts look great, so we know they could get the calendar right as well. While the array of available Android apps is still smaller and less elegant than what’s available on the iPad, there is plenty of power and style in the latest from Samsung. If you need an Android Tablet, we suspect this one is the best one yet.
