In support of its work to ensure South Carolina’s 10-county Upstate region engages intentionally with the global economy, the Upstate SC Alliance has hired a Global Cities Initiative Coordinator.

Bonnie Blair joined the Alliance on May 2, and her role includes coordinating the creation of the Upstate Global Competitiveness Council, supporting logistics and communications among members.

The council is a continuation of implementation of the Upstate Regional Export and Foreign Direct Investment Plans released by the Alliance following the Upstate’s participation in the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase.

In March, JPMorgan Chase announced a $100,000 grant to the Upstate SC Alliance to support the Upstate Global Competitiveness Council.

“The long-term future of the U.S. economy is moving clearly in the direction of greater reliance on global trade and investment. We appreciate JPMorgan Chase’s recognition of this significant area of work and welcome Bonnie to our team. Her experience in volunteer management and ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders will no doubt contribute to the success of this committee,” said Upstate SC Alliance President & CEO John Lummus.

Blair comes to the Upstate SC Alliance after serving 10 years with Bon Secours St. Francis with experience in community education, volunteer management, donor relations, grant management, and event planning.
