Bob and Phil Hughes made big impacts on the 2011 commercial real estate scene, adding to the downtown skyline during a year when most developers shied away from taking chances. Phil’s Riverwalk @ Riverplace development will soon offer 44 luxury apartments with street level retail space below and Class A office space above. A few blocks north, Bob is building project ONE in the place of the long-vacant Woolworth’s building at Main and Washington. Notable tenants include CertusBank, high-end retailer Anthropologie and Haynsworth, Sinkler, Boyd. The Hughes brothers are heavily involved in the community. Bob is a senior advisor for Liberty Fellowship and board chairman for South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities; Phil is on the executive committee of Ten at the Top and the board of Trustees of the Darla Moore School of Business.
