Formerly the home of a now-vacant senior living center, Holland Park is set to be a mixed-use development featuring Home Team BBQ, Double Stamp Brewery, office space, two container restaurants, and an oak tree-covered outdoor space for visitors to relax.

Pitmaster Aaron Siegel and his partners founded the first Home Team BBQ in West Ashley in 2006, with another location following in 2009 on Sullivan's Island. Home Team opened a third location in the NoMo area of Charleston in 2016, with a location launching in Aspen, Colo., not long after. This year brought the arrival of a Columbia location. 

Home Team is noted for their barbecue, their commitment to live music, and their smoked chicken wings and Alabama white sauce. 

Holland Park is part of the larger rebirth of Laurens Road, which can be traced to the arrival of the Verdae development in the Motor Mile area and Willy Taco near Washington Street. 

Future Laurens Road developments include the The Enclave at Laurens Village, a mixed-use project at the site of the former S.C. Department of Highways and Public Transportation and Department of Motor Vehicles buildings; Bridgeport Estates, a 234-lot townhome neighborhood; and the extension of the Green Line of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, which will include a bridge running over Laurens from the direction of the Greenville Zoo.

Tonight's the night Travelers Rest City Council decides the fate of the proposed Pinestone mixed-use development: Located on a 40-acre site between Hardees and Bojangles off of Highway 25, plans for Pinestone have included 100-single family units, 250 rental units, and office, commercial, and medical space. Developers are seeking a zoning change for the property which would all for mixed-use, residential development.
Initially, Pinestone seemed like it was a sure-thing -- the planning commission gave it a thumbs up way back in January with City Council following in February -- but has become a source of some debate as old and new debated how the development fit into plans for grow in the tiny town, which has become a mecca for cyclists, runners, and walkers following the addition of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail to the community.
Running along an abandoned rail line, the Swamp Rabbit Trail has completely revitalized Travelers Rest, bringing with a host of specialty shops, restaurants, city pride, and, yes, traffic -- although nothing even remotely comparable to other popular areas in Greenville County. Pinestone would be a huge step forward for those who want increased amenities in the area, and for those looking to relocate to a outdoor-friendly city where Paris Mountain is nearly always in sight.

BMW Names New Chair: Following a meeting today at German auto giant BMW's Spartanburg factory, the BMW Group announced that Oliver Zipse has been named the chair of the Board of Management at BMW AG, a move that follows Chairman Harald Krüger's decision not to seek another term.

“With Oliver Zipse, a decisive strategic and analytical leader will assume the Chair of the Board of Management of BMW AG. He will provide the BMW Group with fresh momentum in shaping the mobility of the future,” Dr Nobert Reithofer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMW AG, said in a statement. 

Bloomberg reports that Zipse has been named chair to help the German manufacturer "regain Momentum" in the "electric car race."

On July 31, Home Telecom will break ground on a new 20,000 square-foot office and retail center in the CoOp@Nexton mixed-use complex at 1247 Nexton Parkway in Summerville.

The first floor of the two-story structure will house the telecommunication company's customer service center -- they offer internet, cable, telephone, and wireless services -- while the second will feature 8,000 square feet of startup/co-working space.

Hires and Honors

Former U.S. Ambassador, S.C. Governor, and potential 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley has been named co-chair of the 2021 PGA Championship Council. The move comes ahead of the PGA Championship's return to the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, which hosted the then-final major of the season. National sports journalists criticized the location for the muggy August weather and the distance they had to drive from Charleston to Kiawah, complaints which made locals shake their heads and say, "Bless their hearts." The PGA Championship has since moved to May.

Keaton Green and Craig Calhoun have been promoted to new positions at Charleston-based Frampton Construction Company LLC. Green has been named vice president of the company’s Charleston office, while Calhoun will serve as the Charleston office's director of finance.

General insurance defense and civil litigation attorney Ryan Swancy has been hired by the Columbia-based McKay Firm. Swancy is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. 

Tammy Erdley will bring her 12 years of experience in the finance industry to FinTrust Capital Advisors when she joins the team as senior accountant. She is a graduate of the private Catholic university, DeSales University, in Pennsylvania.
