Upstate Mediation Center Announces The Peacemaker Award

The Upstate Mediation Center (“UMC”) plans to commemorate its 20th Anniversary by introducing a new annual Peacemaker Award. The Peacemaker Award is designed to recognize a member of the community who has made a significant difference in promoting tolerance, building good will and understanding, resolving conflict, and striving for peace.

The award will be given during National Conflict Resolution week at the UMC’s Peacemaker Celebration to honor UMC Volunteers and this year’s Peacemaker.  The event will be held at the Rutherford on Tuesday, October 15, with an estimated 100 to 200 people in attendance. Additionally, a local artist has been commissioned to create a bench for the award. This bench will be placed in a park in Greenville with each year’s Peacemaker Award recipient’s name placed on the bench.

Members of the community will be encouraged to submit nominations during the month of August on the UMC’s website for the award. The award recipient will be announced in the month prior to the Peacemaker Celebration.

“The UMC Board of Directors, Volunteers, and Staff are proud of the 20 years of peaceful conflict resolution services UMC has provided Greenville and surrounding areas,” said Rodney Brown, UMC Board Chairman. “The Peacemaker Award is a way that we can recognize someone in the community that has given their time and energy to help others peacefully reach agreements—a core value of UMC’s work.”

The UMC is proud to have The Greenville Journal as a title sponsor for the Peacemaker Celebration. For more information or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities, please visit www.upstatemediation.com.
