The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank, has contributed $50,000 to the Greenville Housing Fund (GHF) toward its equitable housing development program focusing on the neighborhoods that surround the city’s planned Unity Park and other parts of Greenville experiencing gentrification pressure.

The Greenville Housing Fund is coordinating with local nonprofit partners to rehabilitate and preserve existing homes in vulnerable neighborhoods and to work with the city and county to identify key parcels of land to acquire for future affordable housing development.

GHF is acting as a strategic partner with the city, residents, and community stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive affordable housing strategy as part of Unity Park’s development. The city’s goal is to create a holistic plan as part of the 60-acre park development that includes supporting existing residents and the development and preservation of a significant number of affordable housing units.

“Having the TD Charitable Foundation step up to assist with the Homeowner Preservation Program speaks to the bank’s commitment to making a difference in our community,” said Bogue Wallin, chairman of the Greenville Housing Fund.

David Lominack, South Carolina market president for TD Bank, said the TD Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting and improving the quality of life in the diverse communities where the bank does business. “Unity Park is an affirmation that Greenville’s strength derives from its diversity, and TD is proud to partner with the city and Greenville Housing Fund to help create new affordable housing units, as well as support the preservation of existing residences in the area.”

Greenville Mayor Knox White said that Unity Park is designed to help mend the rift of segregation that once cleaved the West Greenville community. “The name Unity Park speaks to that,” White said, “and this transformative project provides a singular opportunity to provide the equitable development and affordable housing needed to ensure the residents living in the neighborhoods surrounding Unity Park will be able to enjoy this new amenity.”

“For Greenville to continue to achieve success and to attract a diversity of people and companies, we absolutely must find ways to make it affordable for residents to live here,” White said.

This contribution supports TD's longstanding commitment to community enrichment through The Ready Commitment, a multi-year platform that actively promotes inclusivity, economic vitality, environmental wellbeing, and health, enabling people of all backgrounds to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
