WellCare Names Urcel Fields State President, South Carolina

WellCare of South Carolina, a WellCare Health Plans, Inc. company, named Urcel R. Fields state president. In this role, he is responsible for WellCare’s Medicaid and Medicare Advantage businesses in South Carolina.

“Urcel is a results-driven professional with more than 20 years of healthcare experience,” said Gregg MacDonald, WellCare's division president for South Carolina and other markets in the Southeast and Midwest. “He brings a deep understanding of Medicaid managed care, strong operational experience, and concern for those he serves."

Fields joins WellCare from Amerigroup Community Care, where he held leadership positions including chief operating officer for the Medicaid plan in Georgia. Before joining Amerigroup, Fields held positions of increasing responsibility with Peach State Health Plan, a subsidiary of Centene Corporation, which serves the Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids populations in Georgia. He also held senior positions with Aetna Health Inc. Fields earned his master’s degree in public health from Boston University and his bachelor’s degree from Howard University.

As of Sept. 30, 2018, WellCare serves approximately 77,000 Medicaid members, 14,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members, and 9,000 Medicare Advantage members in South Carolina.
