William Killion, PhD, a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst with Greenville-based Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health residential treatment center for youth, has been recognized by Autism Parenting Magazine as “Top Autism Therapy Writer” for 2018.

“For several years, we have been hand-picking a collection of top writers to be honored for the year in a range of categories,” said Amy KD Tobik, editor-in-chief of Autism Parenting Magazine. “I am inspired by the vibrant and devoted autism community that has developed within the Autism Parenting Magazine community … whom have generously shared their expertise.”

Killion was selected from among 1,500 autism specialists, scientists, educators, advocates, autism parents, and people on the spectrum who contribute to the autism-focused publication. Killion was recognized for the expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy he brings to his contributions, including a column detailing the importance of teaching functional independence skills to children and adults with autism.

Killion has more than 40 years of direct experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism. He is the author of the Functional Independence Skills Handbook (F.I.S.H.) Developmental Program, a curriculum for ABA used world-wide and translated into multiple languages.

Autism Parenting Magazine’s recognition for Dr. Killion is well deserved and comes from one of the most highly respected resources available to the autism community,” said Mike Rowley, CEO of Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health. “Dr. Killion is an invaluable part of the success equation here at Springbrook. We are fortunate – and our clients are grateful – to have access to his expertise and experience in treating autism, and we’re thrilled that outlets like Autism Parenting Magazine provide a platform for him to share his insights with other autism families.”

In March, Killion will be speaking at the Converge Autism Summit in Greenville. During his address at the event, which is sponsored by Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health, Killion will talk about his approach to ABA therapy, as well as current trends and recent advances related to the treatment of autism.
