Medical Assistants Week is October 15-19. On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Anderson Chapter of Medical Assistants will recognize medical assistants at a reception in the Peggy Gardner Deane Community Rooms at AnMed Health’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital, 2000 East Greenville Street, Anderson, S.C.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., Dr. Michelle Tucker will speak on breast cancer awareness, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The community is welcome to attend, including medical assistants, students, doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, and office staff. Attendees can receive one American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) approved continuing education unit (CEU).

“Medical assistants are often the first person a patient sees upon arrival at a physician’s office,” said Carrie Childs, AnMed Health medical assistant. “They escort the patient to the examining room and frequently take vital signs. They are essential to a physician’s office. They are the doctor’s right hand.”
