Tindall Corporation has been selected as a construction partner in the expansion of Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute, an affiliate of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, at the Pelham Medical Center campus. Tindall is working with architect HDR and general contractor Vannoy Construction to design and build the additional structure and new pedestrian bridge.

Tindall will provide precast architectural panels and a pedestrian bridge to connect the new 198,000-square-foot building to the existing structure. Both components utilize structural precast panels while incorporating other materials such as glass, steel, and brick into a striking facade.  The Gibbs Cancer Center design team initially did not integrate precast concrete into the project, but Tindall’s in-house engineering group developed an adapted design that reduced construction costs and accommodated scheduling.

“Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and Tindall are two Upstate organizations committed to innovation,” said Randy Royal, sales engineer for the South Carolina Division. “This expanded medical facility will provide additional capacity and much-needed care for the growing Spartanburg community. We look forward to continuing our work with local partners.”

“We reached out to Tindall for a small, customized solution for the structural support of the pedestrian bridge,” said Joe Hoglund, project manager of Vannoy Construction. “They took that a step further by providing a design that integrated precast into the structure, saving the project time and money.”

The Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute is expected to be completed in late 2019.
