Greenville pro soccer team to unveil name, logo, colors

Aug 02, 2018 03:24PM ● By Chris Haire
It's a glorious time to be a soccer fan in Greenville. Not only were futbol die-hards treated to the inaugural season of the fiercely followed semi-pro Greenville Football Club in 2018, next year will bring with it the arrival of Greenville's very own, United Soccer League Division III professional team.

Although the Greenville squad was announced in March, the official name of the team, and its uniforms, have remained under wraps. That's all about to change.

On Thursday, August 9, the Greenville franchise will unveil all of its branding -- including the team name and colors -- at a Pour Taproom, 7 Falls Park Drive.

According to a team spokesperson, the event is free of charge and open to the public. However, space is limited, so they would recommend arriving early. Doors open at 6 pm.

“We couldn’t be more excited to finally reveal our team name, colors and logo to the community," says the team's Chief Brand Officer and Vice Chairman Doug Erwin. "Tons of work has gone into the process across the last five months, and we think we have a brand the entire Upstate can be proud of.”

So far, only six teams have been announced for USL D3, with squads hailing from Statesboro, Ga.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Tuscon, Ariz.; Madison, Wisc.; and Toronto, Ontario.

The United Soccer League is a U.S. Soccer Federation division two league. A member of FIFA, the U.S. Soccer Federation also sanctions Major League Soccer, the nation's premier league. The USL recently met with ownership
groups representing 11 different cities; Greenville was one of them.

At the helm of the Greenville team: Erwin Creates' Joe Erwin (chairman), his son Doug Erwin (vice-chair and chief brand officer), and former Swamp Rabbits head
Chris Lewis (team president), who help spearhead the rebranding of the one-time Greenville Road Warriors.

While tickets are not currently on sale for the Greenville squad, potential fans can reserve a place on the season ticket
priority list for $50.
