Bank of Travelers Rest Eyes New Main St. ATM

Even though we are continuing to move to a cashless society, there are times when you just need to add a few $20 bills to your wallet, especially when you are in downtown Greenville attending one of its numerous festivals or block parties.

Sometimes you're looking to buy tickets for a couple of brewskis at Downtown Alive or several trips to the bounce castle during Main Street Fridays.

Other times, you've got your eyes on a few heirloom tomatoes at the Saturday farmers market.

And there are those times when you just bet your bestie you could track down every Mouse on Main in under an hour .... blindfolded. Either way, it's time to get some cash.

Although there are a number of ATMs downtown, for many folks, there just doesn't seem to be one around when they need one.

If the Bank of Travelers Rest has their way, there will soon be another downtown ATM, this time at their branch on the corner of East Washington and Irvine streets.

The Bank of Travelers Rest has submitted a certificate of appropriateness to the City of Greenville Design Review Board for a walk-up ATM at 219 E. Washington St. The ATM application is on the agenda of the next DRB public hearing on June 7.

The hearing starts at 4 p.m. in the 10th Floor Council Chambers at City Hall.

The Bank of Travelers Rest moved into the spot at the Washington-Irvine corner 10 years ago. Last year they began using the second floor of the location.
