Clemson Honors Faculty For Accomplishments

May 17, 2018 02:40PM ● By Kathleen Maris

Clemson University recognized faculty members who have received the highest levels of national and international recognition with University Research, Scholarship and Artistic Achievement Awards (URSAAA).

The newly created URSAAA awards are reserved for faculty members who have achieved difficult, rare levels of accomplishment, such as authoring publications that have been cited more than 1,000 times or being granted fellowship in exclusive international organizations.

“One of the strategies outlined in ClemsonForward is to reward research excellence,” Clemson President James P. Clements said at an URSAAA awards ceremony during the annual Research Symposium. “If you look at most of the major advances in society over the last several decades, many of those, if not most, came from research universities, so I am thankful for the really important work that our faculty do.”

The full list of URSAAA recipients is posted online.

“Universities impact societies in two primary ways: Educating students and creating new knowledge through research. When you are recognized nationally and internationally as our URSAAA faculty members have been, it affirms far-reaching impact,” said Tanju Karanfil, vice president for research.

“As an institution, we should do more to recognize the outstanding work of our faculty to remind them that their work is important, that it is appreciated and that their accomplishments are something for other faculty members to aspire to,” Karanfil added.
