Apr 09, 2018 02:59PM ● By Kathleen Maris

The Harvest Hope Duathlon will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at the SC Technology & Aviation Center (SC-TAC) located at 700 Perimeter Road, Greenville, S.C. Every dollar raised through this event will provide five meals for someone in need.

The race is a 2-mile run, 14-mile bike, 2-mile run. Registration is available for individual and two-person relay teams. There are nearly 100 participants registered, and this number is anticipated to continue to increase throughout the week leading up to the event.

The Harvest Hope Duathlon is taking place in response to the increased interest in community participation in multi-sport events and the USA Triathlon’s National Duathlon Championships being held in Greenville this year.

“This race is a great way to introduce individuals interested in multi-sport races without the pressure of a long distance course,” says Lori Burney, donor relations manager for Harvest Hope Greenville. “We are happy to provide our community with a fun and unique opportunity while also raising funds to support hungry families throughout Greenville. With the generous support of Food Lion Feeds as the presenting sponsor, all proceeds raised through other sponsorships and participation fees will be used to directly fulfill the Harvest Hope mission:  providing for the needs of hungry people by gathering and distributing food with dignity, compassion, and education.”

A community food drive will be held April 9-13 to collect food donations in conjunction with the Harvest Hope Duathlon. Residents or businesses interested in submitting donations may deliver them directly to Harvest Hope Food Bank at 2818 White Horse Road, Greenville, S.C. 29611.

Support for this fundraising event is made possible by Food Lion Feeds, and in partnership with the following businesses: Piney Mountain Bike Lounge, Gotta Run Greenville, Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery, Upcountry Provisions, Trek Bikes, Greenville Spinners, Greenville Track Club, Caliber Collision, Bon Secours St. Francis, Carolina Triathlon, Enhanced Living Chiropractic, Food Lion Feeds, 9Round North Greenville, Adam's Mobile Market, and Port City Java.
