On Monday, April 2, 2018, the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation Department will continue its ongoing tree restoration and replacement program along Main Street between Beattie Place and Pendleton Street. The purpose of this project is to achieve the long-term goals of maintaining the aesthetic appeal of downtown’s Main Street. This year’s scope is derived from the annual assessment by consulting arborist James Urban.

This project will include pruning all trees along Main Street to improve the growing structure, removing deadwood, and mitigating mistletoe. One small Zelkova tree will be removed and replaced in the 200 block of North Main. Also included in this year’s scope of work are Cambistat treatments and Transtect basal drench applications to selected trees to enhance tree vigor and growth.

While closure of some sections of sidewalk may be necessary, access to downtown businesses will remain open and every effort will be made to minimize the impact of tree work on merchants and their customers.

Schneider Tree Care is the City’s contractor for the project. The work is expected to be completed by July 1, 2018.
