Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands Names New Board Members

Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands has announced the election of six new members in the Upstate: Jackie Blakley in Anderson; Gloria Close, Margaret Young, and Carolyn Harbison in Spartanburg; and Liying Shen and Lesley Moore in Greenville.

Jackie Blakley is dean of Business and Public Services at Tri County Technical College. She is chair of First Steps and serves with African American Leadership Council and Delta Sigma Theta. In addition, she serves as president of SC American Association of Women in Community Colleges and is the college representative for the SC Women in Higher Education, both in Columbia.

Gloria Close is an educational consultant with Web Close Consulting. She is a board member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, president of Junior League of Spartanburg, a founding board member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Spartanburg, chair and founding board member of Family Care Council, the Governor’s Job Training Council, board member of Children’s Trust of South Carolina, and an elder and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church.

Margaret Young is a CPA and partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is a current board member of Chapman Cultural Center and has served as a board member for Mary Black Foundation, United Way of the Piedmont, Girls Scouts of the Piedmont, and Terrier Club at Wofford College. As a Girl Scout volunteer, Young serves on our Council’s Audit Committee and was a board member and Treasurer on the legacy Piedmont Area Council.

Carolyn Harbison attended is on the board of the Charles Lea Center in Spartanburg, member of the Spartanburg Bike & Pedestrian Commission, and a graduate of Spartanburg Regional Hospital Spartanburg Regional Fellows Program, Spartanburg Water Matters Academy, and Spartanburg Citizen Academy. She is co-chair of Emerald Circle Spartanburg, and served as president of the legacy Piedmont Area Girl Scout Council and on the Governance Committee during Council Realignment.

Liying Shen is senior engineer with BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC. She has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Master of Science- Automation from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and a Master of Science - Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. She has served as treasurer of the nonprofit Greenville Chinese School.

Lesley Moore is an attorney with Freeman and Moore PC, representing clients in estate planning and probate. She is a certified specialist of estate planning and probate law. Moore is a previous board member of the council and served as chair of the Property Committee. She has also served as Board Member of Ronald McDonald House, Community Foundation of Greater Greenville, Greenville Zoo Educational Foundation, Child Development Committee of YWCA, St. Francis Foundation, and Greenville’s Child.
