M. B. Kahn Construction Takes Second Annual Economic Impact Award

Columbia-based commercial construction firm M. B. Kahn Construction is the recipient of the second annual Economic Impact Award for South Carolina. The award is sponsored by The Capital Corporation, BDO USA,LLP, PNC Bank, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, Charleston Business Magazine, Greenville Business Magazine and Columbia Business Monthly. The winner is selected from among companies chosen for South Carolina’s Fastest Growing Companies.

M. B. Kahn was selected for its robust capital investment over the past three years, and for its heavy emphasis on community involvement. 

“For nearly a century M. B. Kahn has brought respect and dignity to the construction industry in the Palmetto State,” said C. Dan Adams, president and CEO of Greenville-based The Capital Corporation. “M. B. Kahn has been a strong employer of sandlappers all during its existence as well as a loyal benefactor to a number of local nonprofit and charitable companies in our state.

M. B. Kahn, founded 90 years ago, is one of the largest supporters of public education and community partnerships in the Southeast. The company is known for taking an active role in the communities it serves, not only financially but also through creating meaningful experiences in the lives of children and families. Company employees serve on numerous boards and foundations that focus on community involvement, such as educational foundations, PTAs, and Friends of the Library.

The company hires locally, participates in local reading events with libraries and schools, participates in community career fairs, partners with colleges, offers apprenticeship programs, has an internship program for college or university students, and offers job shadowing. M. B. Kahn’s capital investments over just the past three years has been strong.

Our management and employees provide leadership through service on nonprofit civic and cultural boards and  participation in such  activities.”

M. B. Kahn is active in charitable giving across the state with an emphasis on education, health care, and the cultural and musical arts.

“We recognize that many young people are not aware of the opportunities in the construction field, particularly for women, and we sponsor apprenticeship and internship programs that allow young people to learn about construction,” says Kahn. “Relationships are a critical part of our business lives, and our goal is to build and strengthen relationships based on trust and commitment.  Competence and professionalism go hand in hand with this responsibility of building relationships and repeat business depends on it.
