Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County has been named the 2017 EarthCraft Builder of the Year by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Homebuilder’s Association. The EarthCraft Builder of the Year award is a regional award given to one organization in recognition of a steadfast commitment to building performance and sustainable construction. This is the first time Habitat Greenville has received this award.

Habitat Greenville has built 39 EarthCraft certified homes since 2012. In addition to maintaining the standards of this certification, Habitat Greenville homes also meet Energy-Star efficiency standards. As a result of this dedication to sustainable construction, Habitat Greenville homes are durable, well-constructed homes that serve as anchors in transforming the communities in which they are built. Habitat homes built to these standards also reflect the quality of housing that Habitat homeowners have worked for through homeownership classes and sweat equity.

“Quality construction is important because it drives down the cost of operating a house, improves neighborhoods and increases home values,” said Monroe Free, president and CEO of Habitat Greenville. “But the most important thing it does is communicate to families we serve that they are worthy of quality. The quality of our efforts and the quality of the homes that we build reflects how we value our families and our community.”
